How Do I Make Money with Avon?

Hello there,

Thank you for being here!  You may already be an Avon Representative, or you may be looking into the opportunity, I assume you are wondering, “How do I make money with Avon?”

As an Avon Representative you have the opportunity to earn multiple streams of income.  Every successful entrepreneur or business owner has multiple streams of income.  It’s like the old saying, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket!”  The more opportunities you take advantage of, the more money you are going to earn, and the more security you are going to have in your business.  If one area takes a small dip you still have other areas to earn from.

With Avon you earn multiple ways, (if you choose too).  You can manage your Avon business however you decide.  You can take advantage of all opportunities or only one!  It’s completely up to you.

The first way you earn money with Avon is through your personal sales. Customers will receive a new brochure from you every two weeks (per campaign).  The customer will select the products they would like, and they will submit their selections to you personally.Every two weeks on your “order date” you will collect and submit all your customer orders at once.When you submit your orders you will order your new brochures.When you deliver the customers order, you will ensure they have the next book in their order.The two week campaign cycle is great for our daily care product customers.  Naturally everyone needs shower gel, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, makeup, deodorant, after shave, cologne, and perfume, right?  Therefore as your customers products run out, they will need to replenish often.  This is your residual income with your personal sales!  Avon Representatives are at an advantage, our product is necessary, and runs out, which means your customers will come back! Based on the total amount of your order you will earn a certain percentage of the entire order (including your online sales).

For Example: a total order of 20 customers at $30 average order per customer gives you an order total of $600.  This puts you at the 40% earning level.  

40% of $600=$240 in two weeks (minus business tools)

Your Earnings Level: is based on order size, product category and sales achievement level, and applies to orders from your online store as well as YourAvon.com orders.

You’ll receive variable earnings, as shown above, on Beauty and Jewelry products, and fixed earnings on Fashion and Home products, which are indicated by the Variable Earnings symbol symbol in the brochure. Earnings on products with this symbol are 25% for members of the President’s Recognition Program and 20% for all other Representatives.

All products within the Avon brochure, Avon online, mark. Magalog, Outlet, Specialty or Novelty flyers, fundraisers, samples, sales tools and a portion of the price of Demonstration products (Demos) count toward Earnings Level. Starter Kits and recruiting tools do not count toward Earnings Level.

You earn money when customers shop through your web store!  This also counts toward the total sales for the relative campaign. Each Avon Representative is given a FREE website at sign up!  You can find your web store address here (if available and within policy you can customize your web store address):web office 2

For example: Total brochure sales are $350.  Additionally, you have had $200 in sales from your Web store which gives you an entire campaign sales of $550 in sales.  Therefore. you are now earning at the 40% earnings level.  Without your web store sales you were earning at the 35% level which would be 35% of $450= $122.50, however adding the extra $200 in web store sales increases your total sales to $550 which gives you an earnings of $220.80 at the 40% earnings level! In summary your face to face sales and your online sales are added together for your total campaign sales every two weeks.  The total sales puts you at a specific sales earnings level! You decide how much you want or need to earn! It is all up to you, Boss!

The third way and most lucrative way to earn money in my opinion and experience is through, Avon leadership.  Simply sharing the Avon opportunity with others.  As an Avon Representative we not only offer state of the art products, we also offer a state of the art opportunity to start your very own business!

With Avon Leadership you earn in more than 1 way.

  • Every two weeks you earn a commission based on your total team sales
  • You earn Qualified New Recruit Bonuses
  • You earn Mentor Bonuses
  • You earn Title Bonuses

What is a Qualified New Recruit Bonus?

When you welcome a new team member to the business (officially sign up under you) and they place their first or second qualified order goal of $150 or more (within the Kickstart Program) See New Avon Representative Bonus Program-Kickstart Program Blog Post you earn a qualified new recruit bonus of $20 per new team member! Lastly, as an Avon Representative you can build your business and give back to a great cause, with Avon Fundraising!

It is up to you as a Representative if you see fundraising as a “Money earner.”

When an Avon Representative registers a fundraiser it is automatically tagged, at the 50% earnings level of total sales no matter the amount.  This means between the Representative and the organization, you can decide which percentage of the earnings they would like to agree on.  I generally offer 40% as the 10% pays for flyers for the fundraiser, bags,  supplies, and other various materials and tools needed to run a successful fundraiser.  And….. of course your time, costs you money as well.

For Example: A total fundraiser sale = $5000.00.  50% of the total sales is $2500, this is the earnings from the fundraiser the other 50% pays Avon for the Product.  

Of that $2500 you have decided to give the organization 35% which equals $1675.00 for the organizationYou hold back 15%, for your time, materials, and business tools needed to run the fundraiser. You keep $875.00. 

In my opinion, when offering a fundraiser I like to give as much as I can to the organization without costing my business money.  This is why I offer 40%.

The biggest win in my opinion is of course giving back to a great cause, and the amount of new customers you will gain running a fundraiser.

When the organization is pleased, the positive word of mouth will surely book new fundraisers through you!

As a busy mom of two small children life is hectic, and unpredictable at times, in fact MANY TIMES, therefore I have found that keeping a tight calendar and remaining consistent is a must for growth both personally and professionally! BUILDING: Average Order per Customer!

I would like to shed some MAJOR light on a huge money-making opportunity for YOU every campaign!  It is called “Average Order Size.”  
So what does this mean?
Every campaign you place your order, right?  If you take the number of customers and divide it by your total sales that campaign you will have your average order size.  Let’s use the example below to show you how to earn more money in your business with a few small easy changes!
Example:  Campaign 2 you have 10 customers and the total order is $200, therefore if you divide 10 customers by $200 in sales that is about $20 per customer.

A $200 order you earn at the 30% earnings level!  30% of $200= $64 earnings for YOU!
Now imagine if you took a look at each order your customer submitted to you, and followed up with all friends and family each campaign and actually made suggestions for them based on what you know about them!  Imagine each customer order was around $30 a campaign!  Additionally, due to your impeccable and consistent following up and asking your current customers for referrals you now have 15 customers at $30 each!
15 customers times $30 each = $450 in sales which gets you to the 35% earnings level which means you would earn $157.50 that campaign!
Now lets take it up a notch, because you really want to clear debt in the new year and take over some payments with your AVON business!
Say due to all your up selling and product suggestions you still had 15 customers, but their average order went up to $40!
That is 15 customers times $40 average order which = $600 in sales and places you in the 40% earnings level which means you earn $240 that campaign!
OK we are getting somewhere, you are really learning how to cross category sell, and up sell, by getting to know your customers and what they need and like!
You now have 20 customers with an average order size of $50 becuase each customer is ordering the A Box you have suggested for only $10 with their $40 order!
This means …….. you have a campaign sale of $1000 and you are earning at the 40% earning level which is a whopping $400 in your pocket!  
Two campaigns a month = $800 in your pocket each month!  
What would you pay with that?  Mortgage?  Cell Phone bill?  Car payment? Groceries?  Day Care?
You see it’s all about YOU!  How YOU decide to manage YOUR business!  How YOU decide to reach out for tips and help from ME and through Avon U on www.youravon.com! All the resources are here to help you make the most out of your Avon business!

10 Tips to kicking off a Strong Business

Below you will find 10 simple and easy things to do that will help you kick your business off STRONG!

  1. Now that you have officially joined Avon:  Register as a first time user at http://www.youravon.com with you new account number and create your own password.  This is where you will conduct all of your business!

log in2. Immediately contact your Avon Mentor!  This will be shared with you in the welcome email Avon automatically sends when you sign up as an Avon Representative! You have been assigned a personal mentor to coach you through starting and continuously building a strong lucrative business!  Stay in close contact with your mentor, find them on Facebook! It will also be listed on http://www.youravon.com under important info on your home screen log in page at the bottom right hand corner!

What Is Your Mission?

As an entrepreneur it is important to always stay challenged, and continually learning new skills.  Especially when you are mentoring others to grow their business, and leadership skills as well!  How you coach and mentor others is how they will coach and mentor others.  Before you know it you have an entire culture centered around a belief system YOU created, good or bad.

That said, I am currently enrolled in a Coaching Program.  When you hear coach I am sure most people think of sports team.  Well this is a different area of coaching, but honestly the same principles apply!  I am referencing coaching for business and leadership growth.

In fact I recently read an amazing book on leadership, written by a former head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons, Mike Smith, and Bestselling Author of The Energy Bus, Jon Gordon.  I strongly recommend you read this book TODAY, as I have looked at my business in a completely different way.  I am excited to see how you analyze your business, team, and strategies after reading.

Smith, shares stories of strategies, winnings, and YES, even losses.  He reflects on the strategies that brought the team big wins and those that brought big losses.  As a leader it is so important to analyze both wins and losses and the path you took to get there.  Understanding the path good or bad can help you avoid next or repeat next time.

In Chapter 1 on page 16, Smith, references a phrase, “Focus on the Root not the Fruit.”

Want to take a guess at what that means? ( Please leave comments on this blog below to start a discussion.) 

MY idea of what, Smith, was referencing. Just like briefly discussed above, you must understand, the ROOT of how you got where you are (the FRUIT or end result).

Smith, mentions how, “Success can be your worst enemy if you allow it to change your culture and approach.”  Well that is certainly a strange thought isn’t it!?  Success should be a good thing right!?

Of course success is a great thing, when we remember our, “Roots.” Why you started your business, what your mission is, what the goals are, why you are here.

Success can sometimes lead us a stray from these important values.  The focus suddenly turns to the win (Fruit) which is the end result rather than the path (Root) that gets you to the win/loss (fruit).  Before you know it your entire team and culture is focused on winning ONLY, rather than the “Root.” Once you have lost your mission, you have lost your purpose.

Losing your purpose can be a scary thing, you may start trying strategies that burn you or your team out just for that win.  You may even start going against your code of ethics to bring in the win.  This can alter your character and lead to major burn out.  It is crucial to remain centered on your, “Roots.”

Success will always follow, because you will  measure success differently.  Success might look different to you when you remain focused on your mission/purpose.

For example: You may find yourself thinking, “Wow, great job team we may not have won the game, but we played with heart, we played with passion, we played with dignity, and everyone of us left better than we started. Thank you for playing like a unified team, and working hard!”  Rather than, “We didn’t win, practice 7 days a week until the next win, that is mandatory.”  This leads to burn out.

I can remember a time where I as so focused on getting to a final number that I wasn’t taking the time to get to know new team members, and their “Why for starting their own business.”  In turn I had no personal relationship with any of my team members and I lost them just as fast as I gained them.  Simply because I lost my focus of, “Why I was here.”  To share an opportunity, like I had to build a home based business, giving families an opportunity to spend more time together.

Getting to know my team and their purpose, helping them achieve their dreams and goals, is ultimately what gets me where I want to be.  This to me is winnning.

  4. What steps can you take to refocus yourself and/or your team?
  5. In what area of your business can you use this reflection exercise to refocus your business and bring back the purpose/mission?

I am so grateful for the principals I gained from reading this book and reflecting on my business.  Of course everything above is my opinions and personal experiences.  Please share yours with me as well, with a comment.
